Sunshine Village offers housing to approximately 200 employees out of 800. Each department at Sunshine Village is given a certain number of beds to allocate to their employees based on operational needs.

Due to the heavy traffic in our housing each year, rooms are very basic. Residents need to bring bedding, an alarm clock and any other personal items such as music players, posters, towel, etc. Please understand that all housing is dormitory style with 2 or 3 persons to a room. Staff lounges are in each building and are equipped with TVs, DVD players and cable. We also have 25 beds in town at the Banff International Hostel.

A damage deposit of $100.00 is deducted from each resident's paycheque upon sign-in to staff accommodation. This amount is returned, if the room is left without any damages or alterations, when the resident signs-out with the Human Resources Department.

Each "On Mountain" Unit includes:

• Cable
• Internet
• Free laundry facilities
• Common area lounge (TV and DVD provided)
• Payphone/house phone

Staff Accommodation Sign-In

Your supervisor will approve and confirm your bed in housing upon offer of employment. Once you have been approved to move in to Staff Accommodation you will need to come to the Human Resources Department to sign into housing. The Human Resources Department is located on the mountain in the village. The Human Resources office hours are 8-5pm seven days a week. (If you are coming to check in or out of Staff Accommodation, please try to make it before 4pm.)

The Serious Stuff...

• All of our accommodation is NON-SMOKING.
• No pets of any kind on the premises

All residents are required to sign a Tenancy Agreement outlining the rules and regulations of Sunshine Village Staff Accommodation.

Food

Employee meals are provided at a subsidized cost. On-hill and off-hill staff can payroll deduct up to 3 meals a day. Each meal averages $5.00 and are prepared and served in our staff cafeteria.

Our staff cafe hours are: 7am - 9am, 11am - 2pm, and 5pm - 7pm (7 days a week)

Due to the building design, we do not provide common kitchens for on-hill staff.

Transportation

Sunshine provides free transportation to those who live off-hill to get to and from work. The schedule will be available at the beginning of the season.

We also sell a bus pass. This pass allows employees to use the public skier buses that run all day between Banff and the mountain. The cost is $25 per month and is payroll deducted.

Living in Banff and Canmore

Banff is approximately 15 minutes east of Sunshine Village and Canmore is 30 minutes east of Sunshine Village. If you need to find a place to live in town, here are some leads to get you started:

Temporary Housing:
Banff International Hostel
The Banff International Hostel is located about 5 minutes from Downtown Banff. It is usually a place that new employees can call home temporarily while looking for a more permanent place to stay.

YWCA
The YWCA is located a matter of seconds from the Bow River and minutes from the west end of downtown Banff. The YWCA has ideal temporary accommodation.

Classifieds:
Banff Crag and Canyon
The Crag as the locals call it is the paper to read for local events and current affairs that affect Banff and it's residents. Look to the web site for classifieds regarding renting accommodations.

Rocky Mountain Outlook
A free local newspaper, with stories about life in the Rocky Mountains. Look to the Classifieds section regarding housing.

Canmore Leader
The Canmore Leader is the Crag's equivalent in Canmore. For housing in the Canmore area, look to it's classifieds section for leads.

Things you should know about living in and around Banff and Canmore:

  • Private bedroom in a shared house - $350-$500 *per month*
  • Shared Bedroom in a shared house - $250-$350 *per month*
  • Deposit is usually one month's rent and is paid up-front
• Utilities are commonly included in the monthly rent
• When utilities are not included, be prepared to pay a deposit for hook up
• Rogers, a cell phone company, has reception towers up on the mountain and would be a good choice for those wanting coverage in the village
• The cheapest beer is called Bowen Island and costs $6.95 a six pack
