FREERIDE TERRAIN

Bring your beacon, shovel, your partner and prepare for Delirium Dive, the country’s most extreme off-piste ski experience. Do a few laps in The Dive and you'll be talking yourself up for the rest of your trip.

Sunshine Suite

The dive was reopened to the public in 1998, followed by the Wild West in 2003 and both areas have been enjoyed by many expert skiers and riders. Silver City, previously unused is extreme and for experts only. Guests who choose to enter these areas will need to be equipped with an avalanche beacon, shovel and travel with a similarly equipped partner.

Sunshine Suite
Freeride zones will NOT be marked for hazards such as rocks, cliffs etc… - all route selections are the responsibility of those entering these areas. Knowledge of travel in steep avalanche terrain is recommended. Freeride zones are subject to closure at any time due to avalanche hazard, weather, visibility, temperature or slope conditions. Please respect all closures, and others using these areas.

alertFor further information please see Ski Patrol or the avalanche Info Boards (Village or Goat’s Eye). For updates on the status of the Freeride Zones, please call 403-762-6511.

Safety Requirements

To use Sunshine's extreme terrain the following safety requirements must be met.
• The area must be "open". To check the status on the day call 403-762-6511
• You must carry an avalanche transceiver and know how to use it
• You must carry a shovel
• You must have at least one other person with you.

We recommend that you are comfortable on double black diamond runs such as Farside and Wildside on Goat's Eye Mountain before you attempt this extreme terrain.

Access to Delirium Dive

From the top of the Continental Divide High Speed Quad follow the signs to the check-in gate. You will not be able to proceed unless you meet the safety requirements. Once through the check-in gate you proceed up to the top of Delirium Dive with a small hike.

From the top there are a couple of ways to enter into Delirium Dive. Just below the summit there is a 15 - 20 foot rock band that crowns the top of the Dive. Skiers and snowboarders alike are known to negotiate entry into the 'Dive through the cliff's small weaknesses or simply dropping in. Another way to get down, and a more moderate approach, especially for first timers, is to go down the access stairs that negotiate the cliff top to slightly more tame ground.

Delirium Dive conditions change constantly and due to it's variety of terrain there is avalanche danger. This occasionally calls for closure until avalanche control is done. Call 403-762-6511 for information regarding Delirium Dive's status.

Go with a pro! If you've thought about tackling some of the best extreme terrain around but don't have the equipment or want to go with someone who can show you the best lines, the Sunshine Ski School can help.

Our experienced instructors offer full and half day Challenge Tours for small groups of up to five people. Safety equipment (transceivers, shovels and packs) is included and tours are available on days that our extreme terrain is open. Advance booking is required. For further information and pricing visit the ski / board school section.

Goat's Eye Mountain

Goats Eye LogoTo get you warmed up and ready for action check out Wildside and Farside from the top of the Goat's Eye Express chair. You can also try Hell's Kitchen and Freefall as the meanest ways down the lower half of Goat's Eye.

There are four additional double black diamond runs opening in the Eagle Saddle area - just past the Wildside / Farside. These have been named Think Again, Renegade, Stampede and Saddledome.

Watch out for the opening of the super extreme "Wildwest" Freeride area on Goat's Eye Mountain.
