Eduardo Salazar: The Artist Behind the Winning Design of Creating Angel Art Contest
To help celebrate the grand opening of our NEW Super Angel Luxury Express, (the first of its kind to be built in North America) a six-passenger heated bucket seat bubble lift that features Leitner-Poma's EVO technology, we asked our community to get innovative and “create angel.” The art contest, “Creating Angel” was open for interpretation. Participants were asked to create a work of art that captured the spirit of Super Angel Express.
Over the span of the contest, we received over 100 unique submissions ranging from acrylic paintings, ceramic work, painted snowboards, graphic design, AI imagined art, poetry, etc. The winner would receive a Sunshine Season pass, bragging rights, and the potential to see the design on stickers or other merchandise.
From the 100 plus submissions, 20 finalists were chosen to be featured on our social media and to compete in a live poll vote. Images went head-to-head until we arrived at the top three: Goggles with Wings (created by Eduardo Salazar), Super Angel Poster (created by Stephanie A), and Sunshine Mountain Board (created by Megan Parker).
The winner of the Creating Angel contest, as chosen by the Sunshine Community, is Eduardo Salazar’s, “Goggles with Wings.” This captivating design received 41% of the vote.
From all of us at Banff Sunshine, join us in congratulating Eduardo Salazar!
Originally from Costa Rica, Eduardo immigrated to Canada in 2020, he now proudly calls Calgary home. As a child Eduardo grew up surfing, upon moving to Alberta he quickly fell in love with the Canadian Rockies and snowboarding. Happiest outdoors, Eduardo spends as much time on the slopes of Banff Sunshine as he can.
Eduardo’s art can be viewed through his Instagram account @behindthetreedesign. Through art, he expresses who he is and what he loves – nature, geographic shapes, animals, mountains, and snowboarding.
In Creating Angel, Eduardo took inspiration from Goggles – a piece of equipment he was introduced to in Canada. He jokes, in Costa Rica you don’t see surfers wearing goggles, but to surf powder you certainly need them. He paired the goggles with angel wings, to highlight the heavenly feel he has whenever he is carving down Lookout Mountain.
Eduardo’s final submission was a vector/adobe illustrator file which he initially hand drew. He worked with a computer program to add color and fine tune the design.
If you love Eduardo’s design as much as we do, give him a follow-on Instagram (@behindthetreedesign). We at Banff Sunshine are currently sourcing stickers to feature the design. Once the stickers arrive, they will be available at our Sunshine Retail Stores.
